Known collectively as the Fridley tornado these twisters were the worst cyclonic disaster to hit the Twin Cities to date. On the evening of May 6 1965 Twin Cities residents knew that there was going to be a storm.

The worst tornadoes in Minnesota Twin Cities history occurred on May 6 1965 with five tornadoes sweeping across the western and northern portions of the 7-county region and a sixth tornado just outside the metropolitan area. Four tornadoes were rated F4 one was an F3 and the other produced F2 damage.
Thirteen people were killed and 683. May 6 1965 was one of the worst tornado outbreaks in Minnesota history. Six tornadoes affected six counties around the Twin Cities with 13 fatalities and over 500 injured.
The tornado outbreak lasted three hours and caused 51 million in damage. There were four F-4s one F-3 and one F-2. Two of the F-4s crossed paths causing even more damage.
